On average, VA spends 175 days per claim gathering evidence on the Veterans behalf.  That is time Veterans spend waiting to hear about decisions.  If that evidence is provided to VA up front, we can reduce wait time.

Sometimes I would get claims for leg condition or back pain, leaving me with nothing but questions: Which leg? What part of the leg? What is the actual condition causing back pain?

And now that I work for the Veterans Benefits Administration at VA, Id like to share them with you. Simple Truth #1: Make your claim easy to approve. As a Veterans representative, it was most difficult to move a claim through the process when it was submitted with no evidence to go with it.

Hello; My Doctor has told me to take it in the morning. I usually wake up around 5:30. I keep a bottle of water and my Levoxyl on my nightstand.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab. 2009 Jul 7. Epub ahead of print. In contrast, morning vs. evening ingestion of thyroid hormone was examined in 105 patients with hypothyroidism, who served as their own controls in a cross-over study.

Thyroxine therapy is usually initiated in a small dose, perhaps 25-50 ug once daily, and a repeat set of blood tests, commonly a TSH, is repeated after 4 weeks to ascertain if the prescribed dose is correct.

Many commonly used medications or supplements (iron, calcium, estrogen, proton pump inhibitors, statins) can cause alterations in thyroid hormone absorption or binding to plasma proteins, sometimes requiring dose adjustment of L-thyroxine Drugs that interact with levothyroxine: an observational study from the Thyroid Epidemiology, Audit and Research Study (TEARS ) Clin Endocrinol (Oxf).

If there is one thing most doctors think they know its that weight gain can be caused by an underactive thyroid and having an overactive thyroid leads to weight loss. So the thyroid hormone, thyroxine, will lead to weight loss.

As thyroxine has a long half life (5-7 days) and disappears slowly from your system, it needs to be taken only once a day. Hence, even if a patient forgets to take thyroxine on any given day, the circulating levels of thyroxine will generally be only very slightly perturbed.

Hi I'm new to this forum and would be grateful if anyone can help with the long term side effects of thyroxine ovedose.

Generally, Veterans submit private treatment records and notify VA where other records exist, like VA Medical Center records or Social Security Administration records. VA will go get Federal records and schedule you for an exam.

If you do not at least tell them where the evidence is, it becomes much harder to find and less likely VA will be able to obtain it and grant your claim.
